How to Make a Treasure Chest
December 24, 2013
Description:
In my freshman wood shop class, we built these treasure chests from a single pine board. Since then, my original chest broke and I’m in the shop this week to make an exact duplicate. All you need is 1- 1×6 that is 8′ long. With the proper layout, you can get the entire treasure chest built from that single board. On the bottom of the board, I did butt joints with a 1/8″ groove cut towards the bottom. This allowed me to slide in a piece of plywood for the bottom of the chest. On the top of the chest, you cut a bunch of strips over on the table saw. You will also need a little template for the sides on the top piece. If you would like to make one yourself, I provided a template that you can download below!
Cut List:
2- 4″x6.5″ Pieces
2- 4″x9″ Pieces
2- 3.25″x6.5″ Pieces
9- 1.5″x9″ Pieces
1- Sheet of 1/8″ Plywood (Cut to Fit)
