How to Make a Reindeer Decoration for Christmas
December 8, 2015
Description:
Christmas is coming quicker each year, but this year I have an awesome reindeer project for you guys! To get started, I used some walnut I had laying around the shop. I began by planing the walnut down to 3/4″ thick. After I had it all planed down, I rough cut the walnut into sections for each of the patterns to go. I then applied the templates to my pieces of wood using spray adhesive to temporarily hold the paper in place. I used my bandsaw to cut everything out, except for the tight corners on the antlers (I did those on the scroll saw). Once that was done, I sanded all the boards down and added some cutting board oil (I ran out of lacquer and wipe-on poly) to give it a nice finish. The last thing to do is add the red felt collar and glue on the googly eyes. Assembling this project is super easy, all you have to do is connect the legs and antlers to the body by aligning the grooves. This project is not only great because it looks so cool with your Christmas decorations, but it breaks down flat to save a lot of space for storage in the offseason.
