How to Make a Coat Rack
July 20, 2021
Description:
This week I’m making a coat rack out of a piece of 3/4″ plywood I had laying around the shop. I started out by designing a cutting template that was inspired by a few coat racks I’ve seen stores selling online. Using Adobe Illustrator to make the template, I finally came across a design that I was happy with. I went ahead and printed out the template and attach it to my sheet of plywood using spray adhesive. Using a jigsaw, I cut out the coat rack template and drilled a 3/8″ for each of my pegs to go. You can find these pegs online or at almost any local hardware store. Using a T-Slot router bit, I routed out two channels on the backside so I can hang this flush on the wall. I sanded everything down with 120 grit sandpaper and finished with 220 grit sandpaper. Using wood glue, I glued my five pegs into place and let the wood glue cure. Once the glue was dry, I went outside and painted this project a nice gloss black. Now it’s just a matter of finding a spot in your house to hang this and your coat rack is all set to go!
