How to Make an End Grain Cutting Board Part 1 of 2

March 18, 2014

Description:

Over the course of this week and next week, I will be making an end grain cutting board. Typically you will use 2 types of wood to create a lot of contrast, but I only have maple and oak available at my local hardware store. I would of used walnut and maple if I had it available, but I couldn’t get my hands on any walnut so I used oak and maple instead. This week I began by cutting the boards to size and glued them all together. After the glue had dried, I sanded the board flat and cut it again this time into strips. From here, I glued the boards back together and this gave me a nice checkered pattern. In part 2 of 2, I’ll show you how I’m gonna go about finishing this cutting board.
